Phobias
Phobias are intense, irrational fears of specific objects, situations, or activities that lead to significant anxiety and avoidance behavior. Individuals with phobias often realize that their fear is excessive or unreasonable, but they may feel powerless to control it. Phobias can be categorized into three main types: specific phobias, which involve fear of particular things such as heights (acrophobia) or spiders (arachnophobia); social phobia (or social anxiety disorder), the fear of social situations and being judged by others; and agoraphobia, the fear of situations in which escape might be difficult or help unavailable, often leading to avoidance of public spaces. Phobias can vary in severity, affecting daily life and functioning, and may require treatment such as therapy or medication for management.
