Primeira Liga
Primeira Liga is the top professional football (soccer) division in Portugal. Established in 1934, it features the country's best teams competing annually for the championship title. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system with the second tier, known as LigaPro, where the lowest-performing teams are demoted and the top teams from LigaPro are promoted to the Primeira Liga. Historically, it has been known for its competitive clubs, particularly the "Big Three": S.L. Benfica, F.C. Porto, and Sporting CP, which have dominated the league's titles. The Primeira Liga is also recognized for its contribution to Portuguese football and the development of players who often advance to international prominence. The league has gained visibility in European competitions, where its teams regularly compete against other clubs from across Europe.
