Washington DC

Washington, D.C., often referred to simply as D.C., is the capital of the United States. It is a federal district, not part of any state, and was established by the Constitution as the seat of the federal government. The city is named after George Washington, the first President of the United States, and it was selected as the capital for its location along the Potomac River between the states of Maryland and Virginia. Washington, D.C. is home to important government institutions, including the United States Congress, the President's residence (the White House), and the Supreme Court. Additionally, it houses numerous national monuments and museums, primarily situated on or around the National Mall. The city plays a central role in American politics and is a symbol of the nation's governance and democratic ideals.
